-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. If you are going to work abroad; you don’t have money for a ticket or for an international passport.

You are promised:

  • receipt of the necessary documents for going overseas in the shortest possible time.
  • stable, high wages.
  • reception in-person in the country of residence.
  • good accommodation and meal conditions.

You are offered:

  • to sign a contract with an employer in a language you do not understand.
  • to leave your country on a tourist or guest visa.
  • to bear all expenses yourself.

THINK ABOUT IT!

YOU can become a victim of human trafficking!

CALL the “Angel Coalition” hotline and get more detailed information:

8-800-200-2400

All phone calls within Russia are free and confidential!

To avoid becoming a victim of human trafficking, you must pay attention to:

  • Name, license number, legal address of the company that sends YOU abroad, contact details of the intermediator company.
  • Name, license number, legal address, telephone, employer’s name, and name of the company where YOU will work.
  • In the employment contract should be clearly and fully stated: YOUR labour duties and rights, responsibilities of your employer, work schedule, and social safeguards which the employer gives YOU.
  • Starting date and termination date of the employment contract (this is obligatory!).
  • Exact amount of YOUR earnings.

There must be two contracts signed in Russian:

1) A contract with the recruiting intermediator company offering work abroad.

2) An employment contract with the foreign employer.

Write as detailed an employment contract as possible.

Make sure that in the contract it does NOT seem that the employer:

  • will keep all the money till the closing date of the contract;
  • will deduct money intended for YOUR upkeep/pay from funds kept by power of attorney;
  • will withhold part of the money for itself.

CHECK:

The license of the recruiting company that is offering work abroad. License should be issued by the Federal Migration Service (FMS) and should be located in the office of the company in a clearly visible place. Copies of this document are not valid, only the original. If the license is issued by a local regional migration service, then the number should appear thusly: 152, year of issue, ordinal number. In place of the abbreviation “RF” (Russian Federation) there should be a two-digit number of the territory that has issued the license. Regional number appear thusly: 1529860192. Numbers such as “B702652” or “4398/78976” should make you suspicious.

It is imperative that you READ THROUGH all points of the Contract.

REMEMBER!

Foreigners and individuals not tied to organizations do not have the right to engage in recruitment activities in Russia.

YOU can work abroad only if you have your work visa and contract with an employer issued in the Russian Federation.

HOW to keep yourself SAFE

1. Do not give your passport to anyone.

  • Documents which confirm YOUR identity should always be kept with YOU.
  • Make several copies of YOUR passport and hide them in different places among your baggage.
  • Leave copies of all YOUR documents with parents, relatives or friends.
  • Give the address of YOUR place of residence and telephone number abroad to family and friends.
  • Show YOUR documents only to police and customs and do not give YOUR documents to anyone else.
  • Be careful when giving YOUR photos to someone abroad, as they can be used in a “porn catalogue” without YOUR permission.
  • If YOUR documents have been stolen, immediately go to the police or the Russian Embassy in the country where you are located.

2. Save some money for the return trip.

3. Do not agree if someone offers YOU a new, fake passport or other documents and claims that this is normal procedure.

2. Travel within the countries of the European Union.

Going abroad by guest visa

If citizens are going to visit relatives or friends in the European Union, the receiving party should have the right to permanent residence in that country.

Pay attention:

- When going abroad by guest visa, you do not have the right to work.

- Never try to cross the border with forged documents, because if you need help, it will be difficult to find you.

- Never be afraid to appeal to police officers in the country of stay or to the police in Russia, even to passers-by in the streets in case of need. They may be able to help you.

Find out as much as possible about the country where you are planning to go:

- Legislation.

- Language (knowledge of English does not guarantee that people will understand you in any country).

Consult the Russian Embassy of the given country for more detailed information.

Information for students

Students visiting educational organizations in the European Union may obtain permission to stay in the country if they study a full working day and are receiving a general or professional education. It is also possible to obtain permission to visit an institution of higher education. Students must finance their education by themselves and give their word that after finishing it they will leave the foreign country.

Going as a tourist

Remember that when traveling as a tourist, you do not have the right to work.

As a tourist you may stay in the country up to three months. For citizens of Asia, Eastern Europe (here applying to Russia as well) a visa is required. A tourist visa can be issued in cases when documents confirm that all expenses for stay in the foreign country will be covered.

Going abroad for getting married

Entrance visas for fiancées and temporary visas for going abroad are issued by the consular department of the appropriate foreign embassy, NOT by travel or marriage agencies of Russia.

According to a fiancee visa, the fiancé and fiancée must be married within 90 days. Otherwise the fiancée must return to her native land.

It is not worth deceiving the embassy by saying that you are going on a tourist trip, because when you are granted a fiancée or provisional short-term visa, the foreign consulate verifies the trustworthiness of your fiancé, which is important for you as well. For this reason it is important to come in for an immigration interview—this meeting will be a decisive factor for you because on the basis of your interview the representative of the consular department will determine if your fiancé or employer has the right to act in their declared role. In this manner, the consulate will verify the trustworthiness of the receiving party for free. Remember, a residence permit can be issued only by the foreign country, not by your foreign husband.

The following are considered illegal stay:

  • Entry into the country by persons who have neither visa, nor residence, nor work permit;
  • Entry into the country by tourists for more than three months and any work activities while there;
  • When a residence permit’s period of validity has passed and it has not been extended;
  • Failure to comply with the purposes declared in the residence permit.

3. Promotional materials with hotline phone numbers of the Angel Coalition

In January 2007 a hotline was connected from Switzerland to inform Russian-speaking citizens of the CIS who desire to or have already gone to Switzerland for work, studies, permanent residence, or marriage, as well as for refugees from the CIS living in Switzerland and those who left during the Soviet era and have since met with legal problems.

In order to inform about the hotline, the following promotional informational material has been printed in the form of booklets, stickers and cards.

Our booklets are distributed in the Domodedovo and Sheremetievo airports, in the embassies of the Russian Federation and the CIS in Switzerland, and in the embassy and consulate of Switzerland in Russia.
